Sure Thing
First of all, I love this play! Back in high school my drama teacher asked us to put on a short play for class, my friend Dennis and I did this. (It was kind of rough but I think everyone still enjoyed it) Obviously, Bill and Betty are the classic people who find themselves sitting at a cafe table together. The play begins and Bill tries to have a sit at Betty's table while she is currently involved in a book by Faulkner. The bell sounds whenever the conversation goes south or does not turn out in the way the romantic reader would hope. Most likely this play was written as a comedy to make fun of the typical cafe scene. Different scenarios prove to the audience that not every single person in a cafe is either looking for love, friendship, a hook up or new acquaintance. Some real life situations are not the happy endings. The bell is probably the single most important prop within this scene. It is the tone that signals the audience to back up and move forward to a different outcome. This short scene is found amusing by many different types of audiences, mostly young adult. Perhaps the ages of the characters were chosen to relate to the best type of audience. All in all, the play was wonderful and funny, a great scene to lighten up the dull unrealistic cafe scene of reality.

Hey Lauren!!
I definitely agree with you about the whole bell aspect of the story. In many ways, it helps to mold the scene and acts as a transition for the characters. Bill and Betty reminded me of the characters in the movie The Notebook. I don't know if you've seen it (I'm sure you have) but in the beginning they are all at the carnival and Noah is trying to get Allie to go out with him. It's kind of funny because she wants nothing to do with him, but at the end she wants everything to do with him! It's just such a romantic story and it reminded me of Bill and Betty. She really could care less about him yet, they both seem to be intrigued by one another while sitting in the cafe. I think that your defiantly right about how, real life situations aren’t happy endings. However, you can always hope for the happy ending and maybe it will come true you never know!! All in all, this play is my favorite so far. I love how Betty and Bill get together in the end, doesn’t it just brighten your day!! : )
Hello Lauren!!! I agreed with you on how the bell was important. That part in the play was annoying to me though. I loved this play though because it was a romantic comedy. Those are my favorite! The ending was good and the play was pretty accurate. You dont always get love in the beginning and that was obvious in this play. It took Bill a while to get it right. Oh and I also agree with you on how people are not always looking for someone to talk to. Sometimes I just want to be left alone. Good job Blogging!!
That is definitely one thing I like about this play...how it shows the dozens of ways two people can end up NOT together, and what it took to find that perfect combination for them to end up getting married and living happily ever after. It also goes to show that maybe you need to give someone a chance because you never know how they may turn out to be. I love it :]
